Salivary Oxytocin Featured on Netflix’s Docuseries “Babies”

Salivary Oxytocin was recently featured in Netflix’s newly released docuseries “Babies” – currently trending. One segment in the series highlights the effect babies have on motherhood and fatherhood through salivary oxytocin levels.  World renowned expert Ruth Feldman, Ph.D., Simms-Mann Professor of Developmental Social Neuroscience at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzlia with joint appointment at Yale Child Study Center, and team determined that fathers and mothers who bonded with their infants produced very similar levels of oxytocin by assessing their saliva samples. “The more you do with baby — really lift your sleeves and take care of the child, and wash it and feed it — engage in a parental role, the more your oxytocin system will activate,” says Feldman. Check out the preview clip below to see how Salivary Oxytocin is making an impact.

Ready to start your own discovery? Simply collect samples and send them to the SalivaLab – no extraction, no concentration, no large test volumes, and no sample manipulation. With Salimetrics, investigators can better define oxytocin-regulated biology with higher resolution using an assay designed specifically for saliva from the pioneers of salivary bioscience. Not only was this assay designed with Salimetrics’ knowledge and experience, but extra care was taken to develop an assay range that spans the biologically relevant levels expected in saliva. With these advancements researchers can now accurately identify early indications with high ecological validity.
